At St. Thomas More's first-ever "Under the Lights" football game on Friday, October 12, 2012, both Junior and Senior teams fought long and hard. The night got off to a rough start but as it progressed, the teams lived up to their true potential.
Unfortunately, the Junior team was robbed of a win in the final seconds of the game. Mr. DeStephanis, one of the Junior football coaches, admits that although "[STM] played well, Bishop Tonnos was a good team. [Our team] made a few mental mistakes ... and threw a miracle pass for the win." However, the "miracle pass" fell through and the final score of the game was a sad loss of 26-27. The team will be sure to "take a lot of good things out of the game ... and ... peak in time for the play-offs."
Our night game ended with an amazing victory by our Senior team, with a final score of 29-8. The fans and coaches couldn't be any prouder of the boys. "It [was] a good test of overcoming adversity for our team because we had a slow start in the first half but [made up for it in] a great second half," said Mr. Fuciarelli, a Senior football coach. It was a great experience for the team to play under the lights and for all the fans who braved the cold weather to cheer on the team. The fans supported the teams and showed great school spirit throughout both games.
Overall, it was an amazing night for the Junior and Senior teams, as well as for all of the Knight fans. Next time, the St. Thomas More Knights will be sure to "rock the house and get louder."
