If you think all STM cares about is football, you are quite mistaken. STM has a wide variety of sports and activities. Everywhere you look, all kinds of activities fill the halls with STM spirit. One such activity is boys' baseball. I know, you’re thinking, boys' baseball, isn’t this a little early MORE News? But I am here to inform you that MORE News is never wrong and, that for the first time in STM history, our boys' baseball season started in the Fall.
The deciding factor was the bad weather that Spring is famous for. We had a beautiful Fall season, so the coaches took the opportunity to start early. The coaches said “there was a large turnout.” They also said that “there were more grade nines than ever.” These grade nines were taken under the wings of graduating students such as Spenser Cardweld, Brandon Boyd, Troy Kush and Eric Larkin, who showed “good leadership.”
Upon questioning, the boys' baseball coaches stated that the practices were tough but frequented with water breaks. Some of their toughest games were against St. Mary’s and Bishop Tonnos. In the play-offs, the boys beat Brébeuf 19-10 and scored the most runs during a season game.
Unfortunately, STM did not win the tournament. They may, however, enter another tournament in the Spring, so the season may very well continue.
