"When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us." Helen Keller
We often focus too much on something negative that has happened in our lives that we don’t even realize all of the other positive opportunities that are waiting for us. You can’t always control how things work out, but you can control how you view the situation and how to act in response. You need to take your attention away from the closed door, and start looking for an open one. This means you must not focus on the bad, but on the good instead. You need to set your mind to find better and new ideas, opportunities and experiences. If you spend too much time thinking about the past, you will miss out on new opportunities that are often right in front of you. We focus our attention on losses
resulting in sadness, anger and frustration, which is why you need to have a positive mindset and to always look on the bright side of things. When something doesn’t go your way, more than often not something better usually follows. Having an optimistic view on life will help you to identify and realize this positive turn of events. Don’t waste your time staring at a closed door, turn around and see the many open doors behind you that you were too busy to notice because you were wallowing in your sadness.

“One happiness scatters a thousand sorrows.” Chinese Proverb
Finding this quote was like a moment of clarity. In our lives, there are so many things that bring us stress, worry, and tears. There are times when these troubles feel unbearable and that there is no way out. As teenagers, we often become so involved in our own minds, entangled in our thoughts and emotions, that we forget how much good there is in the world. Pressures from reaching parents’ and teachers’ expectations, to staying in contact with the social norm can be extremely draining. They bring us several strains that influence us to become so wrapped up in our own thoughts, sometimes leading to isolation and depression. However, those who are in our lives who truly care will be able to pull us out of this dark hole we may fall into. Family members, good friends, coaches, anyone who serves as a role model – these are the people who will always be there calming us from the stress and worry and wiping away the tears. These are the people who will bring out our loudest laugh on the days we don’t even want to smile. One second of happiness can brighten anyone’s day. You never know who you will cross paths with. You might never know their story or their current struggles. But what you do know is that YOU have the potential to make them happy, even just for one second. Everyone needs to make an effort to be the person that can make others forget about all of their worries. So be that person that you want to have in your life. Be the person that makes you smile. And maybe, it will give you enough happiness and satisfaction to scatter your own sorrows.
Living in Optimism
"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant." Robert Louis Stevenson
This quote is very inspirational because people should judge a day by what he or she has done for the future, not by what they have done in the past or their short-term successes in the present. If people wallow in their past mistakes, they may miss opportunities to improve their lives. I often find it surprising when someone exhibits this trait because it is such a useful trait to have, yet it is seldom seen in this generation. It is very enlightening when people are around optimists, simply because they truly exhibit this trait. I, myself, pursue optimism; however, I sometimes relive my faults and forget to do simple actions such as saying, “Thank you” which can positively alter someone’s future or mental state of being.
The Key to Motivation
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily.” Zig Ziglar
I can relate to this quote because when I set goals for myself I usually get lazy and abandon my goal for a while, leaving me unmotivated to achieve my goals. This quote inspired me because it says if you want to achieve your goals you must continue to motivate yourself every day in order to obtain your goal, and realize your dreams.
