On February 12th, STM prefects introduced their latest school event to St. Thomas More: the Handmade Friendship Bracelets Sale. The bracelets sold for 25 cents each and students whole- heartily embraced the idea, buying several at a time for themselves and their friends.
The prefects made every bracelet by hand in a variety of styles, including simple braids, two-coloured knot designs and candy striped bracelets. Prefects were making bracelets constantly during their free time. The campaign took nearly a month of preparation for prefects, but even with about 200 bracelets at the start they sold out within days. The bracelets were a huge hit!
The purpose of the sale was not actually for funding a charity, but rather to model the ideal of embracing friendship. Students were encouraged to buy bracelets for friends to express the importance of friendship and community at STM, as well as to combat bullying. Prefects hope that the positive message of this campaign is impressed on students, and hope that students remember it in the future.
