On Friday May 17th, only laughter and sounds of joy could be heard from the turf field as students, teachers and administrative staff took part in MORE Movement.
The goal of the event was not only to raise awareness about adopting a healthier lifestyle through exercise, but also to raise money for the Hamilton General Hospital - specifically for heart disease - in honour of former STM student Matthew Sagodi who died of heart-related complications earlier this year. A poor diet and a lack of exercise result in an unbalanced lifestyle and increase your chances of various heart diseases.
The Healthy Action Team (HAT) organized three booths for the event; a booth for unhealthy drinks, a booth for job opportunities, and a health issues booth. Three special guests came to speak at the drinks and jobs booths, while the HAT team members looked after the last booth.
The most exciting part of this MORE Movement Day, according to many participators, was the food, prizes and great activities. Raffle tickets could be purchased and prizes included Best Buy gift cards and movie tickets! The food included a barbeque and pizza, but the only drink offered was water, as it is the healthiest choice. Additionally, the activities varied from Zumba, to soccer, to skipping.
The Healthy Action Team would like to thank all of the staff and students involved and, most importantly, the participators who came out and made MORE Movement a success.
