On October 11th, Halloween 4 Hunger officially kicked off its campaign with its first annual Hauntober Fest. The night revolved around a concert by local bands and musicians but also included a bake sale, bobbing for apples, popcorn and cotton candy sales, a skull toss game, face painting and a raffle.
The concert began with opener Melissa Bel, a 23 year-old singer/songwriter from Toronto. Next came rock band Illusion Avenue, followed by an enthusiastic performance by STM’s Step Squad who energized the crowd. Justin Dub, front-man for the band Everlea, and his ukulele came next, and Dawn Before Descent followed.
The performers took a quick break while the crowd participated in a Mummy Contest that involved wrapping volunteers in toilet paper to produce winning Halloween costumes. STM’s own Aidan Arroyo, Ryan Doornick, and Nick Digati performed next, bringing the crowd to its feet. Closing the show was STM alumni No Reason.
Overall, the night was a success with a cozy atmosphere and buzzing crowd. The Halloween 4 Hunger committee wishes to thank Mrs. Fortino-Bozzo and the STM administration team for their support, as well as Stage Crew, the custodial team, members of the H4H Planning Committee and, most importantly, the STM students and staff who came to support the campaign and made it an amazing night.
