On Thursday May 9th, St. Thomas More’s track and field team participated in the invitational Mark Graham Memorial meet. STM participated in events such as running, relays, long jump, high jump, shot put and discus.
There was a lot of training and effort put into the running and field events. STM competed against 40 other Catholic and Public schools during the long and competitive day, with many Knights achieving personal bests. In the Junior Boys' medley, our team came first with a time of 47.46, and our own Robert Heppenstall broke the meet record for the Open Boys' 400m with a time of 49.85. “I was so surprised and I can’t even explain how it feels," said Heppenstall. "It’s amazing!” Other personal bests include Xavier Ellis with 5.77m for the Senior Boys' long jump, Mitchell Phillips achieved 5.78m during the Junior Boys' long jump and received 4th place for the high jump, and the Midget Girls' 4x100 relay team finished in 3rd place.
Overall, it was an exciting and competitive meet and it gave our track and field team a lot of valuable experience. Thank you to all of the coaches for their support and encouragement, and good luck to the team at GHAC!
