On November 19th, STM's resident national basketball superstar Kia Nurse celebrated her signing ceremony committing herself to attend the University of Connecticut in the fall of next year. She has been a pivotal member of our schools girls basketball program that has become a powerhouse over recent years. By signing her national letter of intent with the Huskies, Kia has become a part of the nationally dominant Women’s Basketball program at the University of Connecticut.
Throughout her athletic and high school careers Kia has been known for her talent and tenacity and has an impressive list of accomplishments to show for it. Competing as an STM Knight, she has been named Athlete of The Year since grade 9 and helped our lady Knights secure 3 successive OFSAA AAAA Gold Medals. Kia has also won 6 consecutive provincial basketball championships with Transway and is a member of Canada's Senior Women's National team that has qualified for the world championships that will take place next year in Turkey.
St. Thomas More has been lucky to have Kia as a loved and respected member of our school community. She truly embodies everything that our school advocates and has been an ambassador of athletic and academic excellence at STM. We know that Kia will continue to make us proud in her post-secondary endeavours and that from STM Knight to UCONN Husky, she will always be #11 on the court and #1 in our hearts.
